Scottsdale bakery and tea room offers English tea experience with delicious desserts
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A tea room in Scottsdale will make you feel like you’ve taken a trip to England.
The floral decorations, light music, hot tea and delicious food served on real vintage dishes create the perfect ambiance for a relaxing afternoon with friends and family.
Lilibet’s Bakery and English Tea Room is located near Scottsdale and Indian Bend roads.
The name is an ode to Queen Elizabeth II, as Lilibet was the nickname her father had for her when she was a child. Lilibet stood for something English while also hinting at the royal line.
The location was a small cake shop until Beverly Sullivan, owner of Lilibet’s Bakery and English Tea Room, took over in October 2023.
The bakery still sells dense and delicious desserts but added one unique touch for customers: afternoon tea.
“I wanted a relaxed place where you could have tea, not necessarily have to dress up, not necessarily have to pay a massive amount. Just a nice experience to catch up with friends where a rush is not what we do- we have time to sit, and chat and enjoy a little bit of time out in life,” said Sullivan. She is originally from Manchester, England and moved to Arizona with her husband eight years ago.
Guests can book the afternoon tea experience, which consists of a 3-tiered presentation of finger food such as little sandwiches, scones, and desserts like a cookie, macaron, chocolate-covered strawberry and mini cupcake, along with their choice of unlimited cups of black tea, white tea and herbal tea options.
Gluten-free options are also available. Families looking to celebrate a special occasion can have a kid’s tea party, which includes peanut butter and jelly or cheese/mayo sandwiches, fruit, cookies and a pot of tea.
Sullivan says the afternoon tea is a relaxing experience to enjoy with friends and family, just like she had back home in England. “I’ve tried to stick to real English tea with just the kind of things you would find if you went to a small tea house in England,” she said.
Sullivan adds that another important element of the tea experience is the real, vintage dishes she uses to serve the tea and treats.
“The other really important thing, I think, is having tea in a real cup with a real plate. We don’t do any paper cups. We don’t do any paper plates. It’s about a nice experience in a nice surrounding and nice food,” said Sullivan.
Along with the tea experience, Lilibet’s Bakery and Tea Room also makes delicious homemade cakes and cupcakes. They have a variety of cupcake flavors available to purchase daily and do custom cake orders for special occasions and events.
