9 of the newest, most unique foods at the Arizona State Fair
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — There are just two weeks left of the Arizona State Fair! In addition to new rides, attractions, and musical performances, there are a few new food items, and these aren’t your classic corn dogs, funnel cake, and fried Oreos.
Here are nine of the most unique items you can find at the state fair this year.
Cotton Candy Cake

It’s a colorful, six-layered cake made entirely from different flavors of cotton candy and topped with rainbow sprinkles and marshmallows. You can even buy a version of the cake at the fair and take it home for a birthday party. Find it at the Candyland booth on the west side of the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Lobster Baked Potato
People from the East Coast or seafood lovers might enjoy the new Lobster Baked Potato. Rich, buttery lobster is piled on top of a fluffy baked potato and served with sauce and herbs. Find it at the Lobster Shack, in the most southwestern spot of the fairgrounds, across from Pumpkinferno.
Banana Pudding & Banana Pudding Egg Rolls

Two new desserts involving banana pudding were added to the fair this year. The first is a sweet, creamy banana pudding layered with freshly sliced bananas and whipped cream. You can also find that same pudding stuffed inside a crispy egg roll and topped with freshly sliced bananas and whipped cream. Find both at Famous Pudn in the southwest corner, just north of Lobster Shack.
Fried Giant Mozzarella Stick

Those looking for a big cheese pull will want to try the fried giant mozzarella stick. It’s eight inches of cheese deep-fried and served with marinara sauce. Find it at Hog Daddy’s at the north end of the fairgrounds, between the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and The Backyard.
Candied Watermelon & Pineapple

Take a mini beach vacation with a chunk of fruit on a stick. Watermelon and pineapple are both offered wrapped in a fruit roll and topped with chamoy and Tajín. They each come with a little umbrella, too. Find it at Pineapple Express on the east side, just north of the big Ferris wheel.
Candied Bacon Pork Belly Bites
A sweet and savory option featuring slow-smoke bites of pork belly wrapped in bacon. It’s then caramelized with a sweet sauce for a crisp outside and tender inside. Find it at Bacon A Fair at the north end, just south of Hog Daddy’s.
Crispy Chicken Funnel Cake

For a twist on the fair classic, try the chicken funnel cake. Crispy, fried chicken is served on top of a sweet funnel cake. It’s like the fair’s version of sweet and savory chicken and waffles. Find it at Iron Skillet Funnel Cakes at the southwest corner and in the middle of the shopping pavilion.
The state fair also offers $3 fair food on Fridays for a discounted foodie adventure. Every stand will offer food items for just $3 on Fridays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
