Stove to table: Arizona nonprofit cooks meals for seniors, promotes nutritious eating

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Eating good food is vital for a long, healthy life but can also be expensive. So it’s Something Good when a local nonprofit is helping to feed and educate low-income seniors and share the importance of nutrition.
The Advance Community’s Stove to Table program helps provide healthy meals for seniors in Maricopa County.
“Every week, we deliver about close to 400 meals to seven different agencies in the Valley,” said Chef Paul Holtzman with Advance Community. “We know that we’re making a difference and that every day that we feed people they’re going to bed feeling nourished and feeling good about how their day has been.”
Hundreds of volunteers help cook meals with locally sourced ingredients throughout the year, and the menu changes every week. Last year, the program delivered 10,000 meals and is on track to exceed that by 50-100%.
Advance Community also has a Food Box Program, where participants can take a class on nutritious eating, enroll in the program and pick up $65 worth of groceries once a month, all with delicious and nutritious items.
