MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — A nonprofit is expanding into the East Valley to ensure everyone can get the resources they need, and that’s Something Good.

Circle The City is set to start construction on a new medical respite center in Mesa to help those experiencing homelessness receive medical care.

“We were founded mainly to take care of people experiencing homelessness during times of illness,” said Dr. Bill Ellert, Chief Medical Officer of Circle The City.

The nonprofit received a grant from Maricopa County to open the center. Dr. Kim Despres, its CEO, says it will have 84 beds and is projected to open in 2026. The respite center will help people coming out of the hospital or going to therapy. It will give them a place to go with doctors and nurse practitioners to help care for them.

“You feel grateful yourself that you have the ability to give to somebody else—particularly somebody that’s in great need. So frequently our providers say we receive more from them than what we give because that gratefulness that they give is really a gift enough,” said Dr. Ellert.

Circle The City is also looking for donations for its Kindness Kits, which are supplied with water bottles, granola bars, sunscreen and other essential items needed during the hot Valley summer. To learn more or make a donation, click here.
