Some scattered showers remain as triple digit heat returns to Arizona
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — There are still some scattered showers across the state today, with periods of rainfall expected throughout the afternoon. The best chances for rain remain in the higher terrain north and east of the Valley today.
We are tracking big changes by the weekend as temperatures jump around 25 degrees, and we could see the warmest days of the year so far.
High pressure will build over the region Thursday through the weekend, leaving the state under dry conditions and warmer temperatures over the next few days.
We have a First Alert Day for Saturday and Sunday, as temperatures are expected to be around 105 degrees. Phoenix’s warmest temperature this year was 103 degrees on April 11. If we do hit 105, it would be a little early. On average, Phoenix gets its first 105-degree day on May 22.
However, this wouldn’t be the earliest. Phoenix hit 105 on April 20 back in 1989. These temperatures will bring a moderate heat risk across the Valley for the weekend, trending around 15 degrees warmer than normal. Currently, there are no Extreme Heat Watches or Warnings, but if that changes, we will be the first to alert you.
