Businesses call the ‘Sheaborhood’ home in north Phoenix
Field Trip Friday is sponsored by Sanderson Ford
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — If you live in the north Phoenix area, chances are you may have passed through the “Sheaborhood!” The cute, little neighborhood is home to many local shops and businesses near 32nd Street and Shea Boulevard.
In this edition of Field Trip Friday, Good Morning Arizona is taking you to the Sheaborhood to get a glimpse of businesses who have been a staple in the community.
Shea Cheese!
A cheese shop may be hard to come by these days in the Valley, but stop by the Sheaborhood to Shea Cheese! They are a one-stop-shop for cheese boards and gifts that will compliment any party. Enjoy a cheese and wine pairing or join the silent book club.
Rough and Tough
Anyone up for a hike? You can get all your hiking needs at Just Roughin’ It! The shop moved from Scottsdale to the Sheaborhood in May 2024, feeling more of a community vibe. It features local brands, and they began buying and selling pre-owned gear and clothing.
In addition, the shop also features community events such as hikes, seminars and occasionally brings local food trucks onto the property!
Beloved Food Destination
Customers from around the state flock to 32 Shea, which boasts a rich 40+ year history. Originally, in the 1980s, the building served as a drive-thru photo mat, catering to the era’s demand for quick photo processing services.
Then in 2011, a restaurant entrepreneur envisioned creating a unique cafe experience, and 32 Shea was born. The local favorite has transformed into a cozy neighborhood cafe where customers can enjoy handcrafted drinks, breakfast and lunch during the day. By night, the cafe transforms into a lounge filled with local beers, boutique wines and craft cocktails.
Warm Slice of Home
Proof Bread boasts hand-crafted, delicious sourdough bread that will have your mouth watering. Customers can purchase tasty homemade loafs such as the Jalapeno Cheddar Loaf or Fruit & Nut Boule. If you need something to-go, check out their packaged sliced bread.
A Piece of East Coast in the West
If you’re craving that East Coast taste of pizza and sandwiches, Uncle Sam’s is your place. The family restaurant specializes in East Coast style meals such as steaks, hoagies and grinders! Everything is handmade and made to order.
Try Uncle Sam’s Special pizza or a Ham & Cheese Stromboli. There’s plenty of sandwiches perfect for any palette, whether you’re craving steak, pizza, mushroom or more!
Need A Cup of Joe?
You may have seen them across the Valley, so stop in at PRESS Coffee Roasters in the Sheaborhood! Customers can get specialty coffee that is roasted fresh in-house everyday. PRESS Coffee began in 2008 with Steve Kraus and Tram Mai, who were seeking quality coffee in the Valley. Fast forward 15 years, the shop now has 12 Valley locations and has become a local favorite!
Each year, the company set aside a special day for our Day of Giving, where we donate 100% of our profits to a local nonprofit alongside donations from the generous companies below who have sponsored the event with matching donations.
Fun Farther North
While the Sheaborhood has plenty to offer, Valley residents can head a couple blocks north to find more local shops and businesses! The area of 32nd Street and Thunderbird is home to New Mexican-inspired restaurant Lovecraft or coffee shop Being Bar.
Vibe Box is also a fun gift shop, where customers can create personalized gift boxes for any occasion. If you need to take the little ones somewhere, check out Little Play Avenue, where kids can play while adults enjoy beverages and treats at its café, Avenue Brew.
Adventure Seekers
While we’ve taken you to all the tasty eats the Sheaborhood has to offer, it’s time to get active! Black Rock Bouldering Gym is a unique climbing and fitness experience where guests can learn the intro to bouldering, take yoga classes and more.
If you don’t have any experience in bouldering, no problem! Guests can take an hour-long intro class where trainers will go over safety practices, bouldering etiquette, footwork, breathing and more.
