Former Phoenix teacher indicted for allegedly having sex with underage students
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Prosecutors have announced that a grand jury has indicted a former Valley high school teacher for allegedly having sex with underage students.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office says 43-year-old Eric Curtis Chapman, who also worked at Cortez High School as a coach, was indicted on 20 counts of sexual conduct and exploitation of minors.
According to court paperwork, the crimes involving current and now former students happened in the classroom, the locker room and in Chapman’s car. And the crimes are believed to have happened between 2020 and the first week of April 2025.
Authorities also noted that child sexual abuse material was found on Chapman’s electronic devices. Court documents revealed that he admitted to downloading hundreds of illegal images and videos, which he reportedly admitted to keeping mainly on his home computer after downloading them on the dark web.
The Glendale Union High School District says Chapman has since “been relieved of all duties.” He had been listed on the school’s website as a TV and film teacher and baseball coach.
Chapman is being held in the Maricopa County jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
