SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Scottsdale voters will get the chance to vote on a proposed corporate housing development after enough signatures were collected to put the issue on the ballot.

The Maricopa County Recorder’s Office said enough valid signatures were submitted in order to add the issue to the city’s November 2026 ballot.

Axon, the company that makes Tasers and police body cameras, recently halted its proposed new headquarters and housing project in north Scottsdale but said it remains committed to the community.

The Scottsdale City Council approved the proposal in November, but an effort to stop the development caused the company to cancel the multi-million project just two days before it was scheduled to break ground.

Now, the choice is left to the voters.

Taxpayers Against Awful Apartment Zoning Exemptions (TAAAZE) led the effort to oppose the 1,875-unit development.

“Given the negative impacts this giant apartment complex could have on Scottsdale, a public vote is clearly needed,” said TAAAZE Chairman and former Scottsdale City Councilman Bob Littlefield. “TAAAZE has no issue with Axon’s previously approved plans for a new corporate headquarters. We are opposed to the billion-dollar company’s attempts to change the rules so it can make millions in an apartment project that is too dense, too tall, and one that would create too much traffic and strain public safety resources.”

TAAZE said the Scottsdale Fire Fighters Association has stated that the project would be negative for public safety due to placing so many residents in a concentrated area.

Littlefield said he’s confident that voters will reject the proposal.
