Survey: 23% of Americans say politics influence decision on where to live
Realtor.com surveyed about 2,200 adults in mid-September.
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — About 23% of Americans say local and national politics influence their decision on where to live. That’s according to a recent survey from Realtor.com.
The online survey was conducted in mid-September among about 2,200 adults across the country.
It also found millennial Americans place the most importance on politics when considering housing. About 32% of millennials said it was “very or extremely important to live in a place where most people share their political views,” compared to 16% of baby boomers.
Arizona’s Family spoke to Sindy Ready, president-elect of the Arizona Association of REALTORS, who said the presidential election doesn’t have a huge impact on Valley home sales; however, right now people are nervous about their total expenses, the cost of food and the overall economy.
“‘What are housing prices doing?’ ‘How‘s my whole economic situation going to change or not?’ And that‘s why people are just kind of like, ’I’m going to take a breath and see what happens.’ That’s a lot of what we see in the market, and it has slowed a bit, but there are still some good opportunities,” Ready said.
In terms of housing trends in the Valley, Ready says many more people are going back into the office after the COVID-19 pandemic, so more folks want to live in the core of the Valley.
“On all four corners of our Valley, there’s technology moving in but people are liking to have less of a commute,” Ready said. “So that’s taking a piece of it and then still having that design of a home that gives you some space to actually do Zoom meetings and things like that and work from home.”
If you want to buy a home in 2025, Ready says prices will only go up from here, but interest rates may dip slightly. If you’re a first-time homebuyer, she says a 3% or 5% down payment is common.
“There are some zero-down programs, especially if you’re a veteran,” she added. “So don’t be afraid to get in the market, even if you don’t have a lot of cash. Having the support of a good lender and a good realtor in the process really makes a difference because there are programs coming out every day to help the buyers with a loan.”
