Not welcome? Group fights back on new builds in Scottsdale including new Axon HQ
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Last month, the Scottsdale City Council approved a rezoning request, clearing the way for Axon to build a massive headquarters complete with nearly 1900 apartment and condo units.
Now, a new group of Scottsdale residents is gathering signatures in an attempt to bring the Axon development to a ballot measure vote.
Throughout the process, some residents complained that the project had too many housing units, creating concern for traffic and density in the area of Loop 101 and Hayden Road, where the project is planned to be built.
The group called ‘Taxpayers Against Awful Apartment Zoning Exemptions’ (TAAAZE) calls the project a monstrosity and is largely against new housing developments in the City. “It’s been going on for a long time. They’ve been approving a lot of apartment projects, and people are getting really angry about it,” said Susan Wood, who is collecting signatures for TAAAZE.
A spokesperson for Axon pushed back, stating the project will create millions of dollars for the City of Scottsdale. “At the end of the day, we are going to very carefully scrutinize, every single signature that they turn in, we are going to contest this thing tooth and nail,” said spokesperson David Leibowitz.

The group needs more than 15,000 signatures to be turned in by Dec. 21; Axon has stated that it will leave the City if it does not get to build this new headquarters.
