SELIGMAN, AZ (AZFamily) — It was a special moment in Yavapai County this week when a boy who went missing last week was reunited with his rescuer: Buford the dog.
The toddler was reported missing on April 15 after walking away from his parents’ home. He had walked about 7 miles until being spotted by the ranch dog named Buford nearly 16 hours after going missing.
Buford’s owner, Scotty Dunton, told deputies his dog found the boy while patrolling the property and likely protected the child while directing him to safety.
And on Tuesday, Buford and the child were united again! The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office set up a meeting for the boy’s family and Buford.
For the vital role he played in finding the boy and the source of comfort he provided to the family and local community, Buford was given an Honorary Search & Rescue certificate.
